Many different scholarship opportunities are offered by outside donors and agencies. Below, you will find outside scholarship information listed in order of deadline date and labeled with the following categories:

Please note that the outside scholarships listed are intended for those seeking additional aid at any institution, not just Olympic College. Due to this, some scholarships listed may have eligibility requirements that do not necessarily pertain to OC students.

American Indian Endowed Scholarship (SW)
The Washington Student Achievement Council (WSAC) will accept signed and completed applications for the American Indian Endowed Scholarship that are postmarked by March 1, 2022.
Applicant Eligibility:
- Have close social and cultural ties to an American Indian Tribe or community in Washington state
- Intend to use his or her education to benefit the American Indian community in this state
- Be enrolled full-time by Fall term 2022 at a participating college of university in-state
- Have demonstrated financial need (per FAFSA, as determined by the college financial aid office)
- Be a Washington state resident
- Have not received a total of five years of this scholarship

Horatio Alger Career & Technical Scholarship (NW)
If you are under 30 years of age and pursuing a professional or technical certificate or degree, you may be eligible for up to $2,500 in scholarships through the Horatio Alger National Career & Technical Scholarship Program.
Applicant Eligibility:
- Have completed high school or plan to complete high school by Spring 2016 with plans to enroll at a non-profit post-secondary institution by fall 2016
- Exhibit a strong commitment to pursue and complete a career or technical program at an accredited non-profit post-secondary institution in the United States
- Demonstrated critical financial need (must be eligible to receive the Federal Pell grant as determined by completion of the FAFSA – family income must be $55,000 or less)
- Demonstrated perseverance in overcoming adversity
- Be involved in community service activities
- Be younger than 30 years old
- Be a United States citizen

Gilman-McCain Study Abroad Scholarship (MIL)
The US Department of State’s Gilman-McCain Scholarship provides awards of $5000 for child dependents of active duty service members to study or intern abroad on credit-bearing programs. Developed under the framework of the State Department’s Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program, the John McCain International Scholarship for the Children of Military Families is open to eligible students enrolled at accredited US colleges and universities who receive any type of Title IV federal financial aid.
Applicant Eligibility:
To be eligible for a Gilman-McCain Scholarship, an applicant must be:
- A citizen of the United States
- An undergradate student in good standing at an accreditd institution of higher education in the United States (including both two-year and four-year institutions)
- A dependent child of an active duty military member(s) during the time of application in one of hte following branches: Air Force, Army, Marine Corps, Navy, and Coast Guard
- Recipient of any type of Title IV federal financial aid; and
- Applying for credit-bearing study abroad programs in a country or area with an overall Travel Advisory Level 1 or 2, according to the US Department of State’s Travel Advisory System. However, certain locations within these countries or areas may be designated within the Travel Advisory as either “Do not travel to” (Level 4) or “Reconsider travel to” (Level 3) locations, assuch; students will not be allowed to travel to these specific locations. Moreover, students are not eligible to apply for programs in a country or area with an overall Level 3 or 4 Travel Advisory.

Sciencesy’s Annual Essay Scholarship (NW)
Because education is important to us, we’re offering an annual $500 scholarship that can be used towards your higher education. All you have to do is write an original, science-related article.
Applicant Eligibility:
- Must be 18 years old or older.
- Must have a minimum 3.0 GPA currently.
- Must be a citizen or lawful resident of the United States.
- Must be able to verify enrollment and must have an active university email address.
- Your institution must be accredited and listed on the official website of the US Department of Education.
How to Apply:
- Write an essay of a minimum of 1200 words on any science-related topic you would like. From anthropology or astronomy to zyrmurgy or zoology, the range of science-related choices for your is vast. The more creative you are with your topic choice, the better!
- Post your original article online. This can be a student blog on your university website or your own blog or website.
- Include at least 4 links within your article citing authoritative sources that support the main points you make in your article. Be sure to include one to Sciencesy.com, too.
- Email the following information to [email protected]:
- Your full name.
- Your university or college email address.
- The title of your article.
- The URL of your published article.

WSOS Career and Technical Scholarship (SW)
The Career and Technical Scholarship (CTS) supports Washington students on their path to high-demand trade, health care and STEM occupations. To be eligible, scholars must enroll in an approved program, such as welding, nursing or IT, at one of Washington’s 34 community and technical colleges. Scholars are eligible to receive up to $1,500 each quarter for the duration of their program, as well as support services.
WSOS accepts applications for the CTS three times each academic year. Approximately half of the scholarships are awarded for the fall, with the other half awarded between the winter and spring. The table below shows the timelines for each scholarship window.

Applicant Eligibility:
- RESIDENCY:
- Must be a Washington state resident as defined by the state.
- Must have earned a high school diploma or GED from a Washington State institution prior to the application deadline.
- FINANCIAL NEED:
- Must file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or the Washington Application for State Financial Aid (WASFA) for the relevant academic year by the application deadline.
- Must apply for Federal Education Tax Credits, if eligible.
- Must have a family income at or below 125% of Washington state medium family income based on family size.
- ENROLLMENT PLAN:
- Must plan to enroll in an eligible program for the upcoming term.
- Must plan to enroll at an eligible Washington state community or technical college for the upcoming term.
- Must plan to enroll in at least six credits every term. Scholars are not required to enroll in summer term.
- PREVIOUS EDUCATION EXPERIENCE:
- Must not have a bachelor’s degree.

4/1/22 – UW Tacoma Next Step Scholarship (LA)
The Next Step Scholarship recognizes and rewards exceptional scholarly achievement at the community college level. The fund was specifically created to motivate top students at seven South Puget Sound community colleges to enroll at UW Tacoma. One scholarship is available for each participating community college in the amount of $4000 for one academic year.
Applicant Eligibility:
- Must be completing their final year at Olympic College, or be a recent graduate of Olympic College who have completed their coursework no earlier than September 1, 2021. Recent graduates who are already attending other four-year institutions are not eligible.
- Must be a permanent Washington State resident; international students are not eligible.
- There is a strong expectation that the student will have completed the necessary credits and other requirements to be admitted to UW Tacoma for the Autumn quarter. Should a prospective student accept the scholarship and then not qualify for transfer or enrollment, the award will be withdrawn and may go unfilled that year.
- Must currently post a cumulative GPA of no less than 3.5. Rare exceptions may be made for students who can show exceptional improvement over their last 45 credits.
- Must be pursuing their first baccalaureate degree after having graduated from high school and subsequently enrolled in community college.
- Must submit a complete application for admission to the University of Washington Tacoma by March 15, 2022 in order to guarantee consideration for admission and this award.

- Complete the Release Authorization and Statement of Candidacy form.
- Complete the Honors, Awards, Memberships, Enrichment Activities, Leadership, and Community Service form.
- Secure one letter of recommendation from a faculty member (faculty signatures required).
- Obtain official transcripts from Olympic College.
- Submit entire application packet to the Olympic College Foundation Office no later than April 1, 2022.

5/6/22 – Washington Award for Vocational Excellence (WAVE) (SW)
- WAVE recognizes high-performing career and technical education (CTE) students at both the high school and college level in each of the state’s 49 legislative districts for as many as 147 potential award winners each year. Eligible applicants include students graduating from high school who have completed (or are in process of completing) their sComplet ethe econd course in a single career and technical education program. Also eligible are students attending a community or technical college who have completed at least one year of a professional-technical program.
The WAVE award pays for up to two years (six quarters or four semesters) according to the tuition charged by the institution students will attend, plus required service and activity fees–up to $11,000 per year. This funding, which varies by school, can be applied toward most undergraduate expenses at a public or private college or university, or licensed private career school in Washington. Remember, the amount of funding a WAVE award winner receives may be less than the full award, if the institution they will attend charges less in tuition and fees. The student has up to three years to begin using the award.

- Must be attending a community or technical college
- Must have completed at least 1 year of a professional-techincal program, or be a graduating high school student who has completed (or is in the process of completing) a second course in a single career and technical education program)
How to Apply:
- Visit TheWashBoard.org and create an account that includes your student profile.
- Find and complete the Washington Award for Vocational Excellence (WAVE) scholarship. Note that the WashBoard portal has been known to “time out” before applicants are done saving their work, so we STRONGLY recommend that applicants write their responses in a Word document first. You can then copy and paste your work into the application portal without the risk of losing your work!
- Include a minimum of two, and as many as three Letters of Recommendation from people who can help tell your story, including educators, employers, and other references.
- Have your CTE teacher / instructor complete the CTE Educator Certification Form. It can be uploaded into the WAVE application on TheWashBoard once it’s filled out.

5/15/22 – Charles Gale Masonic Memorial Scholarship (SW)
This scholarship of $1500 is offered by the William H. Upton Naval and Military Lodge #206.
Applicant Eligibility:
- Must be a United States Citizen and be able to provide proof of Washington State residency.
- Must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher. Must maintain a minimum 2.5 GPA each quarter to maintain scholarship eligibility.
- Must be enrolled full-time at Olympic College during the 2022-2023 academic year.
- Must be entering your sophomore year of study.
How to Apply:
- Complete the Application Packet.
- Provide six references that have intimate knowledge of your academic, personal, or professional background.
- Provide letters of recommendation from three of your references–they must be addressed directly to the committee.
- Write a “Goal Statement” of 100 words or less.
- Obtain official, sealed grade transcripts through the last quarter of attendance from all colleges and universities attended.
- Prepare for a personal interview with members of the Charles Gale Memorial Scholarship Committee.

5/15/22 – Stephen BJ Quance Memorial Scholarship (SW)
The Stephen “BJ” Quance Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $2000 is being offered by the William H. Upton Naval and Military Lodge #206.

5/16/22 – Harstine Island Women’s Club Scholarship (LA)
The Harstine Island Woman’s Club is accepting applications from full-time Harstine Island residents of any age graduating from or having graduated from an accredited high school or who have obtained a diploma from an accredited high school program or GED by August 2022. Scholarships are available for academic, vocational, or continuing education for the 2022-2023 academic year for students of any age.
Applicant Eligibility:
- Must be a full-time resident of Harstine Island
- Must be graduating, or already have graduated from an accredited high school, or have obtained a diploma from an accredited high school program or GED by August 2022.
- Must provide proof of enrollment in an academic, vocational, or continuing education program for the 2022-2023 academic year.

6/1/22 – St. Hugh Episcopal Church
St. Hugh Episcopal Church is offering three Tod D. Pritchard Memorial Scholarships to graduates of North Mason High School, Peninsula High School, Shelton High School and those students enrolling for the first time at Olympic College.
Applicant Eligibility:
- Student Be a graduate of North Mason High School, Peninsula High School, or Shelton High School
- Or be a newly enrolled student at Olympic College.
